Abortion is the greatest social justice issue of our time. If you cannot guarantee life in the womb, what good is food, shelter, health care, etc. But that doesn’t mean we are not to care for the poor. Social justice and ending abortion is a both/and proposition, not an either/or proposition.

Some are realizing that…

A new report from the Minnesota state health department finds the number of abortions done on low-income women and the amount of taxpayer funding expended for the abortions is down. That’s because of the impact of a new program called Positive Alternatives.

A new annual report from the Minnesota Department of Human Services notes the decline in both the abortions and the amount of taxpayer dollars used to pay for them.
Despite the declines, taxpayers paid for 28.3 percent of all abortions performed in Minnesota in 2007.

Minnesota abortion businesses filed claims for 3,914 abortion reimbursements totaling $1,582,193 for the year 2007, the health department indicated. That is down from the 3,937 claims or abortion reimbursements of $1,652,977 filed in 2006.

Positive Alternatives is a grant program established through the Minnesota Department of Health that provides funding to life-affirming organizations offering essential services for pregnant women and their families such as medical attention and care, nutritional services, housing assistance, adoption services, education and employment assistance, child care assistance, and parenting education and support services.

A total of 37 organizations received $4.75 million in two-year grants in 2006 and a second round of grants were awarded in July 2008.

Some are missing the importance of the both/and proposition….

“On April 29th, Jay Leno and his wife are hosting a fundraiser for the Feminist Majority Foundation, a radical pro-abortion group that not only advocates for abortion on demand, but also for the closing of pro-life pregnancy centers,” Perkins tells LifeNews.com.

The pro-abortion movement often argues that nobody wants abortion, but until we can provide resources for pregnant mothers in need, abortion needs to be available. The Positive Alternatives program seeks to meet those needs, and has effectively saved hundreds of life. But people such as Jay Leno and the Feminist Majority Foundation reveal there are other agendas in the pro-abortion movement.
