In it’s opening weekend, the movie 2012 is all the buzz in papers, movie reviews, and within social circles.

I’ve been asked numerous times whether the Church believes the world will end in 2012, as the ancient Mayan civilization predicted. Every time I’ve responded that the Church is so not so concerned with such matters as Christ tells us

Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

                                                                                                          Matthew 25:13

And Benedict reminded Christians of the core of that message: that our hearts should always be ready for the end.

“The whole of creation is marked by finiteness,” the Holy Father stated, even those “elements divinized by ancient mythologies.”

In this sense, he added, there is a clear distinction between creation and the Creator, because God’s words are eternal and “will not pass.”

Many are warning 2012 really will be the end. The same was said for Y2K and other myths. Whether this prediction turns out to be true or not, Benedict reminds followers resurrection of the flesh can be found in

all those who hear the Word of God, “receive it and bear fruit” are “part of the Kingdom of God, that is, they live under his lordship; they remain in the world, but are no longer of the world.”

He continued, “In them is a seed of eternity, a principle of transformation that already now is manifested in a good life, animated by charity

This is the “power of the Word of Christ,” the Pope pointed out.

The closing message for the trailer for 2012 says ‘Find out the truth: search 2012.’  Why don’t we find the truth in the only source of Truth? It’s the best preparation we can get for the end times.
